Dexcom Discovers Theft of Scrapped G7 CGM Sensors

Dexcom revealed that through ongoing accounting and quality reviews, it recently identified some lots of G7 sensors originally designated as scrap and meant for destruction were stolen during the destruction process and sold by third parties.

The company said that scrapping limited amounts of sensors that don’t meet its standards is a routine part of its quality control process. Sensors determined to be scrap are send to a third-party vendor for destruction and recycling.

Dexcom at this time has identified two lots of G7 sensors (1725204004 and 1725069002) that were stolen, sold, and used by some customers.

The company traced sales of the stolen product back to Pharmsource, who isn’t an authorized distributor but supplies some independent pharmacies and DME distributors in the U.S. Dexcom advised that pharmacies who purchased product from Pharmsource should take extra care to review their inventory.

The company is notifying customers directly through different communication channels. Since the issue mainly affects the U.S., communication to U.S. customers will precede communication to customers outside of the country.

“Nothing matters more to Dexcom than the safety of our users and maintaining the trust of the diabetes community,” said Jake Leach, president and CEO of Dexcom. “We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and are working closely with regulators and other authorities to ensure user safety, determine exactly how this product was stolen and hold the perpetrators fully accountable for their crimes.”

Users with sensors from the affected G7 lots shouldn’t use those sensors and call Dexcom Customer Support in the U.S. (1-844-478-1600) to request replacements. The company supplied more information on how to determine if sensors are from an affected lot and the actions to take here.
